daffodils

i love daffodils
there's just something about the bulbous flower that makes me fall in love over and over again, although i can't really figure out what
maybe because it's a sign of spring, a sign of new life re-starting, a sign of a new beginning
maybe because it's bright colours, yet simple beauty, signifies a virtue that i myself believe in...simple, but sweet...
in new zealand, 29th aug is yellow daffodils day
a day dedicated to the fight against cancer.they'd be lots of stalls selling daffodil memorabilias, to which all funds will go the the cancer society of new zealand. not forgetting the sales of the flowers themselves....it's not about actually buying the flowers (heck, one can simply pluck 'em for free from the fields, like the ones we have on campus, of which i was a constant visitor). it's about giving your contribution.
would be nice to be one of the volunteers selling daffodils on the streets ;)

The Daffodils
by William Wordsworth (1770 - 1850)

I wander'd lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of golden daffodils,
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the Milky Way,
They stretch'd in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced, but they
Outdid the sparkling waves in glee:—
A poet could not but be gay
In such a jocund company!
I gazed, and gazed, but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;

And then my heart with pleasure fills,

And dances with the daffodils.

perfect description!

p/s: how a bride would beam to hold a bouquet like this
